Oakwood Natural Area
The Oakwood Natural Area is a short trail but interesting. The trail is not well marked and not improved. It is only for the strong willed. It is located in an area of a gravel mine from half a century ago. The area has deep barrow areas and the trail crosses several of these old mine pits. While it is difficult today to tell it was a gravel mine, the rugged topography is a testament to the areas past. During the wet season the trail may be inundated. It does offer a different view of the upper Bayou and shows how natural reforestation occurs.
